In 2013 Mailchimp experienced exponential growth, posing a challenge to management to find a way to cultivate company culture and empower their employees. They envisioned challenges in conversations among employees in a fast-growing company.
Action
Mailchimp partnered with a Birkman Certified Professional to bring Birkman to the workplace and provide a tool for a better understanding among colleagues, and foster a productive, self-reflective, and authentic workplace. MailChimp began by assessing all employees, team by team. After a few weeks, new hires meet with their manager and a MailChimp Birkman Certified Professional to discuss using Birkman as the framework for communication success. Employees realized Birkman gives people the opportunity to engage in deep conversations easily by using the assessment reporting as a conversation starter.
Result
The implementation of the Birkman at Mailchimp showed great success throughout the company each day, as seen in allowing individuals, teams, and managers to work with more understanding, humility, creativity, and independence. The neutral language of Birkman assessments allowed Mailchimp team members to talk about diversity and help demonstrate that differences are assets to be cultivated and handled with care.
