Career Upside Artificial Intelligence Statement and Policy

Last Updated: June 2026

At Career Upside, we use artificial intelligence tools thoughtfully and responsibly, in service of better coaching outcomes.

Our work is human-centered. Whether we are helping a student explore career paths, helping a parent support better decision-making, helping an athlete communicate their strengths, or helping a leader build a stronger team, AI is used as a support tool, not as a replacement for human judgment, coaching, interpretation, or relationship.

Career Upside may use tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Fathom Notetaker, and other AI-enabled platforms to help organize ideas, develop client-facing language, summarize themes, create coaching materials, strengthen value propositions, and provide additional context around Birkman-related insights. These tools may help us communicate more clearly, but they do not replace our professional responsibility to interpret information carefully and apply it appropriately.

How Career Upside Uses AI

Career Upside may use AI tools to support work in areas such as:

  • Career exploration and coaching preparation
  • Student, parent, and athlete coaching materials
  • Value proposition development
  • Resume, LinkedIn, and personal-brand positioning
  • Team workshop planning
  • Leadership coaching preparation
  • Birkman-based communication summaries
  • Candidate, team, or coaching discussion guides
  • Marketing, website, and educational content
  • Meeting recordings and note-taking
  • Follow-up notes, worksheets, and coaching resources

In some cases, Career Upside may use AI tools to help translate Birkman data into clearer, more practical language. For example, we may use AI to help identify themes in a client’s strengths, motivational interests, communication style, needs, stress-related behaviors, work-environment preferences, or “superpowers.”

Use of Birkman Data With AI Tools

Career Upside may upload or enter Birkman-related information into private or business-grade AI tools to help us develop coaching summaries, value propositions, communication guidance, team insights, or other client-facing materials.

This may include information from reports such as the Birkman Signature Report, Birkman Career Exploration Report, Birkman Mindset Report, High-Performing Teams materials, team comparison data, or other Birkman-related summaries.

When we use AI tools with Birkman data, our goal is to improve clarity, usefulness, and communication, not to outsource final interpretation. Birkman data still requires human review, coaching context, professional judgment, and client discussion.

Human Review and Accountability

Career Upside does not treat AI-generated content as final without human review.

AI tools can be useful, but they can also be incomplete, inaccurate, overly generic, or missing important context. For that reason, Career Upside reviews AI-assisted work before using it in coaching, consulting, workshops, or client communication.

Human judgment remains central to our process. Career Upside is responsible for how AI-assisted content is reviewed, edited, interpreted, and applied.

Privacy and Confidentiality

Career Upside takes client privacy seriously. We may use private or business-grade AI tools designed to provide stronger data protection than public consumer tools.

When appropriate, we may remove or limit personally identifying information before using AI tools. Depending on the purpose of the work, we may use initials, first names only, role descriptions, generalized background details, or anonymized summaries instead of full identifying information.

Career Upside does not intentionally use client information in public-facing AI tools in a way that would knowingly expose private client data. We also do not sell client data to AI platforms.

AI platforms have their own terms, data practices, retention policies, and security controls. Career Upside makes reasonable efforts to use reputable tools and privacy-conscious settings, but no technology platform can be described as risk-free.

Client Consent and Awareness

By working with Career Upside, clients acknowledge that AI tools may be used to support coaching, consulting, assessment interpretation, value proposition development, the creation of communication materials, and related services.

If a client does not want Career Upside to use AI tools on their personal information, Birkman data, or coaching materials, they may request this in writing before work begins or at any point during the engagement. Career Upside will make reasonable efforts to honor that request moving forward.

For students, minors, or family-based coaching engagements, a parent or guardian may make this request on the student’s behalf.

Use of AI With Minors and Students

Career Upside works with students, student-athletes, and families. When AI tools are used to support work involving minors or students, Career Upside aims to be especially careful with identifying information, assessment data, school information, athletic information, and personal context.

AI may be used to help develop clearer language, coaching summaries, career exploration ideas, or student-friendly explanations. AI does not replace parental judgment, student agency, coaching conversation, or professional interpretation.

Responsible Use of AI in Coaching

Career Upside uses AI to support better thinking, clearer communication, and more useful coaching materials.

We do not use AI to make final decisions about a person’s career, college major, athletic potential, job fit, hiring outcome, leadership ability, or team value.

AI may help organize information and suggest patterns, but it does not know the full person, family, team, organization, or situation. Career Upside uses AI outputs as drafts, prompts, or support materials, not as unquestioned conclusions.

Hiring, Talent, and Team Decisions

Career Upside may use AI to help summarize assessment themes, compare role requirements with Birkman-related insights, or prepare candidate-fit discussion materials.

However, AI and Birkman data should not be the sole basis for hiring, promotion, termination, scholarship, team selection, or other high-impact decisions. These decisions should also consider interviews, experience, references, demonstrated performance, role requirements, organizational needs, applicable law, and professional judgment.

When assessment information is used in hiring or talent-related work, Career Upside encourages clients to use it fairly, consistently, and as one input among many.

Accuracy and Limitations

AI tools can generate useful ideas, but they can also produce errors, unsupported claims, or confident-sounding conclusions that require verification.

Career Upside seeks to review and refine AI-assisted materials before sharing them with clients. When appropriate, we may verify facts, revise language, remove unsupported claims, and adapt content to the specific client situation.

AI is not a licensed therapist, attorney, medical provider, financial advisor, or substitute for professional services outside the scope of Career Upside’s work.

Content Creation and Intellectual Property

Career Upside may use AI tools to help create educational content, marketing materials, workshop materials, coaching summaries, worksheets, proposals, website copy, email drafts, and other business or client-facing resources.

AI-assisted content may be edited, adapted, and combined with Career Upside’s own frameworks, coaching experience, Birkman knowledge, and client-specific insights. Career Upside is responsible for the final content it publishes or shares.

Data Security Practices

Career Upside makes reasonable efforts to protect client information by using reputable tools, limiting unnecessary data sharing, and applying human judgment before entering sensitive information into AI systems.

Depending on the situation, Career Upside may:

  • Use private or business-grade AI environments
  • Limit personally identifying information
  • Avoid uploading unnecessary documents
  • Use summaries instead of full reports when practical
  • Review outputs before sharing them
  • Avoid using AI for decisions that require direct human judgment
  • Honor client requests to restrict AI use when reasonably possible

Our AI Principles

Career Upside’s use of AI is guided by the following principles:

Human-Centered Coaching
AI supports the coaching process, but the person remains the focus.

Transparency
Clients should understand that AI may be used to support coaching, content creation, analysis, and communication.

Privacy and Care
Client data should be handled with care, especially when it includes Birkman reports, student information, personal background, career concerns, or team dynamics.

Human Accountability
Career Upside remains responsible for how AI-assisted content is interpreted, edited, and used.

Practical Value
AI should make the work clearer, more useful, and more actionable for the client.

Fairness
AI should not be used as the sole basis for high-impact decisions involving hiring, selection, promotion, or personal opportunity.

Accuracy
AI outputs should be reviewed because they may contain errors, missing context, or unsupported conclusions.

Client Choice
Clients may request limits on how their information is used with AI tools.
